Lying around 65 miles north of the city of Miami on the Atlantic coast of Florida, West Palm Beach, and neighbouring Palm Beach are the destination of choice for people looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to enjoy their holiday in Florida. An ideal base from which to explore the cities of Fort Lauderdale and Miami without the inconvenience of actually staying in them, and a popular place to spend a few days resting after a Caribbean Cruise, West Palm Beach offers visitors the chance to lie back in the hot Florida sun on a sandy beach, play golf on one of the many excellent courses that surround the town, and take time out from a busy schedule of pampering to indulge in some retail therapy in one of the boutiques that can be found in the city centre.
West Palm Beach is a fairly small town, and together with Palm Beach (which is located just off the coast on a long narrow island), is home to less than 100,000 people, yet manages to offer every possible facility that you could want in order to make your stay pleasurable, while never seeming to be crowded. In fact, on some days, you can find places on the coast near to the hotels where you feel like the only person on Earth, and a million miles away from the crowds of the city.
Aside from the beautiful sandy beaches, which are the main draw for visitors to the area, other attractions for visitors to West Palm Beach include several high quality institutions including the excellent Flaghler Museum, the South Florida Science Museum; and the Ragtops collection of over 70 classic cars and trucks that describe the automotive history of the nation.
One attraction in West Palm Beach that no visitor should miss out on seeing during their stay is the excellent Lion County Safari Park just outside the city, where you can see many different animals in their natural habitat including lions, elephants and various monkeys. Make sure that you have comprehensive car insurance if you visit the baboon enclosure, as they can strip your car quicker than you would think.
Like Miami and Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach is a great place to begin a holiday exploring Southern Florida, however, the welcome you receive, and beautiful surroundings that you can enjoy in the town and its immediate area could stop you wanting to leave.
