The capital of the most powerful country on earth, Washington D.C. is a monumental city, built for government, and filled with treasures to remind you of how great America is all the time. From the Stunning neo-classical Capitol Building where the laws and policies that have defined the country have been debated and created, to the poignant shrines to the past leaders and soldiers who have died for their country, Washington DC is the history and culture of a nation described in marble.

No matter where you explore in the city, it is always clear what Washington D.C. is all about. Power. Whatever direction you look in, you see the machinery that drives the nation, and the many iconic sights that define its identity. The Monument, The Mall, The Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery and The Jefferson Memorial all tell the story of the birth of the nation, and how it sees itself, while the wealth of history and culture in the Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress is testament to the inspiration and depth of the American nature.

Visitors to the city can enjoy the high quality hotels aimed at international statesmen including the famous Watergate, visit the Senate and Congress to see how a nation conducts the business of Government, travel to the famous Pentagon building (the largest office block in the world) and even take a tour of the Whitehouse if they want to see the kind of sheets that the world's most powerful man sleeps on at night.

Of course there is more to Washington D.C. that just government business; in the swanky Georgetown suburb you can visit several stunning shopping malls where almost everything that you can think of is on sale, from designer goods to cheap shoes. At night, the city is lit up in order to show off its best attractions, and the bars and clubs are open until morning so that the leaders of the free world can relax before heading back to work.

As the centre of American ceremonial life, Washington D.C. is the home of celebrations for Independence Day and Thanksgiving, as well as being the cultural heart of the nation, while its physical location in the middle of the country provides a variety of places to see and explore nearby, including the beautiful expanses of open country around the famous Chesapeake Bay, and the cultural city of Baltimore amongst many other attractions.
