Los Angeles sprawls inland from the Pacific Coast. An urban chaos blanketed in smog, choked by congestion, and riddled with crime and broken dreams, Los Angeles would be a city that no one would ever visit, were it not for the fact that this deeply flawed and divided city is one of the most exciting places in the world.

The city of angels in California has become the capital of the entertainment industry for the world, and its suburb of Hollywood is synonymous with cinema. Los Angeles draws people in from all over the world on a promise of fame and seduces them with the bright lights and thrills of a big city.

Los Angeles thrives on glamour. Everywhere you go, the people are as beautiful as they can be, and locals joke that the shop windows of Rodeo Drive are mirrors for them to look at themselves rather than the products that are actually on sale. The beaches of Malibu are filled with people topping up their tan and desperate to be seen and discovered.

Every waiter in every restaurant dreams of becoming the next Tom Cruise, or Julia Roberts, and as you explore the city you find yourself wondering exactly which celebrity lives in each of the palatial villas in the hills.

Los Angeles' attractions are legion and no matter what you want to do, the chances are that you can find somewhere in the city where you can do it: fancy a theme park, why not try out Disneyland; want to see a film being made - then hang out at Universal Studios; want to appear in the audience of a chat show - then go to Burbank and join the queue; travel to Venice and Malibu for superb beaches and laid back bohemian culture, or cruise along Sunset Boulevard at night to experience the sleazy underbelly of the city, soak some of the best nightlife in the USA, and to see what happens to people who don't achieve their dreams.

A trip to Los Angeles is great for anyone, and no matter what your interests are, and what you want from your visit, you will be able to find it available somewhere. Los Angeles is far too large to ever explore fully, and when you add in the attractions in the surrounding area, such as the countryside of Orange County, the relaxed charm of nearby San Diego, and the legendary Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco, you are left with a destination that you can return to again and again without ever running out of things to do and see.
