In the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park, you can lie on beaches; trek through seemingly untouched rainforest and camp out under the stars at night. The park is arguably the most unique, and compellingly beautiful place in all of America.
The crowning glory of Hawaii is the magnificent Mauna Loa Volcano, which is generally active, and seeing the thick lava glowing beneath your feet, and getting thrown into the air is a sight that nothing can prepare you for. Despite the heat generated by the boiling hot magma, the summit of Mauna Loa, at over 4000m above sea level is freezing cold, and you should dress appropriately.
