Self Drive Honolulu
While the island of Oahu may be too small to be able to sustain a traditional touring holiday by road, there are so many attractions and sights to see, that renting a car on the island is absolutely invaluable, and will really open up the destination to you. In and around Honolulu, be sure to visit Waikiki - the main resort area with a great beach and plenty of sparkling nightlife, both on and off the beach.
Pearl Harbour was the sight where the Second World War began for the USA, and a short drive from the hotels in Honolulu, you can see the USS Arizona. The ship remains where it sank, and is a designated war grave.
Sunset Beach in the west of the island is one of the best surfing beaches in the whole world, and has a unique break that generates waves up to 50 feet tall. Its is not for novices. On the northern coast of the island, which is less developed, you can visit some gorgeous quiet beaches, where you can be practically alone with the waves, and if you get off the beaten track in the interior, there are areas of almost unspoilt junbgle and volcanic scenery to explore.
