Lying on the south west Gold Coast of Florida, and known as a city of palm trees and sunshine, Fort Myers has become a genuinely popular destination for travellers to the state, offering a wide range of interesting attractions for the many visitors to enjoy.

With a great year round climate, and laid back relaxed atmosphere, Fort Myers has long been a popular place for Americans to holiday, indeed, the inventor Thomas Edison and car manufacturer Henry Ford built extravagant summer homes in the city back in 1885, which are now open to tourists as museums. These days, many European holidaymakers are beginning to discover the casual allure of the resort, and make it a part of their Florida holiday plans, choosing the laid back charms of the western coast over the fast paced resorts of Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and escaping the huge crowds of Orlando and Tampa.

Despite what you might think though, Fort Myers is not a dull place, and attracts a younger crowd than you get in other Gulf Coast resorts such as Naples, and boasts a great nightlife in bars and clubs that is the perfect way to finish a day swimming in the sea, and sun bathing on one of the beautiful golden beaches for which the area is famous.

Fort Myers offers top class shopping, a varied nightlife, and many different attractions, ensuring that whatever you want to do during your stay, there is sure to be something of interest to you. Amongst the museums that you can visit is the Fort Meyers museum, which has a collection that runs from ancient through until modern times as well as sections covering the history of the country as a whole.

You can also take cruises around the many offshore islands in order to enjoy the scenery, shop in the vast malls where prices are often half what you would pay in the UK, and a visit to the former house of now dead inventor Thomas Edison is a must for any fans of light bulbs.

An award winning attraction that excites tens of thousands of visitors each year is the fascinating Imaginarium Hands-On Museum & Aquarium in the city, which combines great educational exhibits with plenty of fun, and amongst the many displays, you get the chance to touch clouds, predict the weather and make lightening, as well as watch super realistic 3D movies in a special cinema, and lose yourself in the many displays of science that are presented in an entertaining hands on way.
