As one of the many cities that claim to be the capital of the old South of the country, the inhabitants of Charlotte take great pride in their hospitality and courtesy. With the legendary warm welcome of the region, coupled with the excellent value for money for which the whole of the USA is well known, a holiday in this part of the country is a pleasant way to enjoy American culture at its most genuine and welcoming.

Amid the soaring glass and steel skyscrapers of cosmopolitan modern Charlotte, there remain many hints of the past, barely concealed buildings from a gentler age, where you can enjoy dining out in style in the hundreds of excellent restaurants hidden away down the back streets where you can enjoy everything from authentic Dixie cuisine, through to the latest culinary fashions from all over the world.

As such a popular destination for travellers from all over the world, there are many interesting attractions to keep you occupied during your stay in this fantastic city, and as a centre of the arts, amongst the most important are the many galleries, museums and theatres that you can visit in Charlotte, giving the city a reputation for culture.

The Mint museum of Art includes a collection of mainly Native American work, but also has many old masters on display, while the Charlotte Museum of History - in the oldest house in the area (it belonged to revolutionary Hezekiah Alexander) houses a large collection of important relics from throughout the history of Charlotte and North Carolina.

The real gateway to the pleasant scenery and attractions of rural Carolina, Charlotte makes the ideal base either for a short break as a stop over on the way to somewhere further afield, or alternatively as the base for a self drive holiday exploring this most historic part of the country.

Only about 15 minutes south of the city centre, the Paramount Carowinds theme park is one of the most popular attractions in the South East of the USA, and offers over 50 thrilling rides - including the Borg Assimilated (an utterly terrifying Star Trek themedroller coaster with some 8 loops where you dangle from the track rather than sitting in a train), and the Wayne's World inspired Hurler, which will cause you to do just that.

Within the complex there is also the Nickelodeon Water World water park with slides and pools, and plenty of live shows to keep you entertained.
